This area is the "museum" for Single Volunteers of Calgary. It is a place to get an idea of the various activities that we participate in.

The events listed below took place from August to October 1999.

Big RocktoberFest (Oct. 23)

We will be helping with clean-up at Rocktoberfest.

The event itself runs from 4pm to 1am however clean-up starts at 1am until about 230am (if necessary). You must be awake, alive, aware, and available to participate in the clean-up at 1 a.m. The organizers have had problems with this in the past. We don't expect there to be any problems with our group. 

Volunteers get free entrance to the event plus one beer ticket. Food and beer will be available (at regular prices).

More details will be supplied after you sign up.

SVCalgary Pub Night (Oct. 28)

Our first pub night on Sept. 23rd was great. Thanks to all who came out. 

Our next pub night is scheduled to take place at the Rose & Crown. More details will be available soon.

CMHA - Treasure Hunt (Oct. 2)

We will be helping out at the Canadian Mental Health Association's Treasure Hunt event. Duties will include:

* handing out t-shirts,

* registering participants,

* telephone support.

Volunteers need to meet at the Red & White Club (McMahon Stadium) at 10am. Shaw Cable will be there to do a story on SVCalgary. The actual event will start at about 1030am.

At about 5pm, volunteers will be able to meet at Schanks restaurant (at the NW - Crowfoot location) for an appreciation party.

AIDS Walk - Sept. 26

We have an opportunity to help out with the annual AIDS walk at Eau Claire. The event details are as follows:

You must be good with numbers and must bring a calculator to the event on Sept. 26. We will probably be outside for this event so dress appropriately.

It is important to make the orientation on Sept. 20. If you can't, please let us know in your e-mail so we can be sure to get information for you.

After the volunteer event on Sept. 26 we will go to a nearby restaurant for socializing and food.

SVCalgary Pub Night - Sept 23

We are starting a monthly social event - Pub Night - on Sept. 23rd. We intend to meet every 4th Thursday of the month at a pub.

Come out and have a pint of... something :) and meet other SVCalgary members. 

We'll be meeting at the Unicorn pub starting at 5:30pm. Please sign up, though, so we know how many to expect.

Calgary Children's Foundation - River Raft Race (Aug 22)

For those who volunteered at the River Raft race on August 15, there is an appreciation party on August 22. It will take place at Senor Frogs (2nd Ave/7th St SW) at 5pm. To get in the door, you need to wear the t-shirt given to you at the race.

Afrikadey Festival (Aug 9, 13-14)

Over the last 8 years, Afrikadey has become Western Canada’s largest celebration of African Art and Culture. Afrikadey is about entertaining and educating people about all aspects of African culture in all of its modern day and ancient forms.

We have an opportunity to help with a couple of events. In addition, there is an orientation meeting. It is not mandatory but it would be a good idea to attend. Please let us know, when you sign up for the events, if you can make it to the orientation meeting.

There will be a social opportunity following the orientation meeting - a "drum jam" at the Unicorn, where the meeting is taking place.

Calgary Children's Foundation - River Raft Race (Aug 15)

Come out and help the Calgary Children's Foundation! We will be helping with breakfast and lunch.

There will be free t-shirts and a volunteer appreciation party at Senor Frogs on August 22nd for those who help out.
