Colours From the Light (September 15, 2001)

Single Volunteers participated for the 2nd time in the Mustard Seed fundraiser "Colours From the Light". Local artists displayed their work for similar percentages as galleries would, with gallery fees going to the Mustard Seed.
Guests enjoyed dinner in the Hyatt Hotel ballroom with the perimeter flanked with easels and displays of artwork, which included paintings, sculptures and photography. The audience was addressed by Bev Longstaff, and Pat Nixon director of the Mustard Seed. ( see Readers' Digest April 2000 A Hand up for the Homeless (page 72) ) Musical entertainment for the evening included Paul Brandt and the Latinas.
All 15 of our assigned volunteers showed up - there were no cancellations or no-shows. YIPEE!
The men donned interesting looking red vests that sparked a great deal of lively conversation, and our jobs were to be ticket checkers, assist the guests who wished to purchase the art and assist with the sale of raffle tickets.
One of our new members won a raffle prize package, which included a trip to Puerto Vallarta. She must have been excited because I never was able to catch her to congratulate her.

There was some confusion regarding our dinner situation and in the end we had pizza delivered. After the show we participated in the take down of the art and easels, and enjoyed a glass of wine in the volunteer room.

This was another wonderful and succesful event for the Mustard Seed and for Single Volunteers Society of Calgary.
