Good Shepherd Ministries, founded in 1985, offers structured, transformational after school programming for low-income, inner-city youth (k-12th graders) in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. In response to the reality that only 51% of youth in DC graduate from high school, and the majority of those graduating having below basic reading skills, we focus in our three centers on improving reading skills, using reading curriculum to guide the tutoring time. Not "drop-in" centers, our three programs (k-2nd graders), (3rd-6th graders), (7th-12th graders) take seriously every child's capacity to make very specific commitments and be held accountable for those commitments, including serving the community. We believe that through transformative structures, accountability and commited adult volunteers, every child will be able to move into healthy adulthood. Visit our web site at www.goodshepherdministries.com or email Kim at kimmontroll@juno.com.
