Rummel Lake Hike (July28)
Eighteen members, several of whom were new members, made there way to the trailhead at Rummel Lake after carpooling from Calgary. This is an unofficial trail, but fairly well traveled. The trail was in good condition in all but two short stretches, and it was apparently one of the easiest hikes of the season at 5km in length and a vertical gain of 350 meters. There was a little sprinkle of rain that came and went through out the day. The sky cleared up for an amazing view from the first big ascent through an old clear-cut area and also provided a nice dry period for lunch, around Rummel Lake. After lunch the energetic charged up the pass and then ran down the mountain, where the more weary hikers headed back to the trailhead. The day was marred by a few stings and falls, but over all everyone faired quite well.
At the trailhead the cars were split into the vehicles going back to Calgary, and those heading to the Drake in Canmore. About 10 people made it to the Drake, and while some may not have felt the food was up to par everyone agreed that the company was. After the bill was paid the weary hikes found there way back home to Calgary. The energetic hikers made it back too.
