We are a group in the process of formation, bringing together unattached adults that would enjoy the fellowship of volunteering in teams with their peers. How far and where we go depends on the volunteer efforts of those like you that sign up. If you are sincerely interested in doing some good within your community in your spare time, and if you are sincerely interested in becoming friends with like-minded people, we would love to hear from you! Once we have sufficient volunteers to offer, we will be contacting nonprofits and offering to work in groups for any projects they have in mind. The project can be a one time commitment, such as painting a senior center, or it may be possible to do the same undertaking on a regular basis, such as serving in a soup kitchen. The main prerequisite is that the project must require a group of people to complete, and we must work together as a team.
If we are able to recruit a sufficient number of volunteers, we will do our best to place you with others in the same age category when possible, and try to balance the number of men and women on a particular job. However, we need to stress this is NOT primarily a romantic matchmaking organization; this is a social service organization within which you may hope to make some good friends, and perhaps meet the person of your dreams!
At the National website for Single Volunteers, Inc, study other chapters throughout the USA and you will see that the growth possibilities are endless. We may end up wanting to hold social events for ourselves as well, but the social events will take a back seat to our main mission which is to do something positive for our community.
To cut down on costs and labor, all of our communication will be by e-mail. We hope to hold meetings periodically to get to know each other, exchange ideas, and find some leadership among us! Don't be bashful about offering to lead task forces in the meantime -- without leaders, we are very limited in what we can do. It costs nothing to join, and you truly will get out of it what you put into it.
